Beta of Adobe Premiere Pro and Foundry NUKE JPEG2000 plugin
It’s not so long time ago we’ve posted a blog about technical benefits of JPEG2000 and how it could be integrated with Adobe Premiere as a plugin.
We at Comprimato seen a lot of interest in such use of JPEG2000 for post-production or video editing. Especially how to enable local UltraHD video editing when your CPU, GPU, memory or disk IO is the limiting factor. Thanks to JPEG2000 format, we were able to convert theory into Adobe Premiere Pro (and Nuke Foundry VFX) JPEG2000 plugin which allows resolution switching in real-time. You can open any JPEG2000 image sequence or MXF in JPEG2000 and then use the Adobe UI below to control actual resolution of the video during playback or seek.
The effect of this plugin is simple. You can open master 4K, VR or even 8K which you can’t normally play smoothly in Premiere, then select 1/2 (or lower) resolution and do your post-production work with video in 2K or HD smoothly. All the changes you make during editing/VFX will be obviously applied to the original master file only. There is no need of proxy-file rendering or additonal disk storage space and it’s all done in real-time. The tool reads only data realated to the particular resolution when playing or seeking, but it can instantly show video in full resolution when paused.
What if my video master is not in JPEG2000?
The Comprimato plugin comes with an JPEG2000 exporter and you can open any kind of your master footage and save it as MXF or image sequence using Comprimato JPEG2000 settings:
We are already running beta program for some time and now we are opening it to the wider audience. We would like to see how users work with this tool, how much it helps and if there are any new features to add or issues to fix.
If you’re working with 4K video but you don’t have a fast enough hardware for it, or if you would like to edit 4K even on MackBook Air, our plugin could be the answer for your problem. The beta program is for free, so give it a chance and sign up today.
If you are interested to see such cool thing in action, meet us at NAB: https://comprimato.com/nab2017/
