JPEG2000 lossless compression for medical imaging
JPEG2000 lossless format stores medical images in their original uncompressed form while it significantly reduces storage requirements.
Storing medical image data in the uncompressed form is fundamental for accurate medical diagnosis. JPEG2000 format uses true mathematically lossless compression that allows to reduce size of an image about 2x to 2.5x. This brings about 60% reduction of storage space. The key attribute of the lossless compression is that the original image can be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed form and there is no difference between the compressed and the original.
JPEG2000 lossless compression is often used to save storage in digital archives or hospitals as they need to store a large amount of image data. Typical applications includes mammograms, X-rays, MRIs, or CTs, and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
Comprimato is the fastest JPEG2000 lossless encoder and decoder. You can learn about the Comprimato JPEG2000 Codec and the JPEG2000 SDK at its product page.
